Nepal

The Nepal project is working with the Nepal Mediators' Society and the Nepal Supreme Court to help increase the skills, success and sensitivity of court-related mediators in Nepal.

Board Liaison: Judith Gilmore
Team leaders: Badri Bhandari, Alise Halbert, Ross Madden

Our goal is to provide assistance in assessing and addressing the obstacles faced by court-related mediators in Nepal. Over the next 3-5 years we will conduct exit surveys and provide questionnaires to be distributed by the Supreme Court Mediation Center. We will offer training and forums for information sharing among practicing mediators with NEMS (Nepal Mediators’ Society) and other key stakeholders.

Our members include two alumni of Pepperdine University Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, an expert court-related advisory group, a Monitoring and Evaluation consultant, and two members of the SMU MBB Branch.

This project is intended to improve trust and harmony in Nepal among judges, lawyers, administrators and the participants. It also is intended to increase confidence in the mediation process and its benefits.
