Executive Summary

MBB is deeply committed to building conflict resolution capacity not only overseas, but also in the U.S. By partnering with the Mississippi Mediation Project and the Family Mediation Council of Louisiana, MBB is working with community-based mediators in New Orleans, LA and Biloxi, MS to improve their skills and to develop community mediation programs.

MBB’s goal is not only to settle or resolve conflicts that are the result of Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath, but also to prevent them by building the capacity of local people and communities to transform their suffering into learning, development, and change.

The Katrina team continues to fulfill MBB’s purpose by partnering with the Mississippi Mediation Project and conducting mediation and community building trainings annually. MBB’s activity with the Mississippi Mediation Project began with MMP’s "Day of Dialogue" on March 5, 2008, in Biloxi, MS in which MBB participated.

The Project Team completed the most recent training in October 2009; Turning Conflict into Collaboration. The training was successful in that the new comers were engaged in interaction with MBB as well as other coalitions in the area. The Katrina team provided the community with workshops and worked as a great support to encourage the mission of the initiative.
