He also has extensive doctorate research experience within the field of Global Security with American Military University. His primary regional area of interest is Eastern Europe\, specifically the ongoing dispute resolution process between Moldova and Transnistria. Other recent research has included a replication study on enclave bias in the Balkans and interviewing staff of organizations like USAID\, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)\, NATO\, and civil society organizations. He recently completed a Masters in Conflict and Dispute Resolution with the University of Oregon School of Law and a Masters in Legal Studies with American Public University. Over the past two years\, he has twice conducted research with the OSCE in Prague through its Researcher-in-Residence program where he explored their mediation\, negotiations\, and facilitation practices. He has also worked as a librarian\, research assistant with think tanks in the DC area and at universities\, has taught English\, has worked as a journalist.

SUMMARY:Body\, Mind and Soul: Integrating Religion and Secular Evidence-based Praxis to Heal Divide\, Overcome Hate and Address Domestic Radicalization
DESCRIPTION:Since the storming of the United States Capitol on January 6\, 2021\, a growing chorus of pundits\, politicians\, officials\, and experts have framed the rioters and the general threat posed by right-wing radicalization through a lens reminiscent of the tone and terms customary to the war on jihadist extremism. An example of this lies is the way a lot of post-Capitol Riot rhetoric suggested a clear pathway linking Christian Evangelicalism to right-wing radicalization. While there is merit inexploring how and in what ways modern American evangelicalism may intersect with an individual or group’s radicalization\, we must not replicate similar mistakes made in efforts to advance preventing and countering violent extremism initiatives when the focus was Jihadist extremism. The United States is a deeply religious country\, but apart from toxic polarization falling on political\, social and economic fault lines\, we are so too divided with regard to the way we perceive religion and spirituality. Watson\, Jr. Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School\, where he teaches three courses: Mediation; Legal Profession: Collaborative Law; and Diversity and Dispute Resolution.  David is also an attorney\, mediator\, arbitrator\, and founding member of Boston Law Collaborative\, LLC\, where he handles cases involving family\, business\, employment\, and other disputes.  Prior to founding BLC in 2003\, David was a litigation partner at the Boston firm Hill & Barlow\, where he practiced family law\, employment law\, and general litigation for 17 years.  He is past-chair of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution\, past-president of the New England Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution\, and former chair of the Boston Bar Association ADR Committee.  David is also a Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators and a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American College of Civil Trial Mediators.  David has published three books (including “Bringing Peace into the Room\,” with co-editor Daniel Bowling) and a number of articles and book chapters on law and dispute resolution.  David is a graduate of Princeton University (A.B. 1970\, summa cum laude)\, Cornell University (M.A. 1974\, American Studies)\, and Harvard Law School (J.D. 1984\, magna cum laude)\, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.  David’s TEDx talk about “Lawyers as Peacemakers” can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKXv1_Sqe_4. Putting these intentions into action\, after the launch\, at COP 24 in Katowice Poland 2018\, of her concept to deliver the eduCCate Global Climate Change Teacher Course to all schoolteachers\, Melanie personally funded more than 329\,000 educators\, in 43 Countries. These educators were the very first eduCCate Global Certified Climate Change Teachers\, in the World!   \nShe personally sponsored several schools to participate in and complete the eduCCate Global Bronze and Silver Awards\, in both the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.  \nMelanie funded two Headteachers and team members to attend COP 25 Madrid in 2019.  \nMelanie Harwood delivered initiatives with the United Nations (UNITAR) and Hammersmith & Fulham Borough Council when the United Kingdom entered its first Covid 19 Lockdown and created both the Recovery Curriculum Virtual Summit as well as the Sustainable Schools Virtual Summit\, which were made available to all school leaders. \nMelanie recently sponsored a group of teachers to take part in the launch delivery of the eduCCate Global Certified Carbon Literacy Specialist Teacher Training and she hopes that this will pave the way for the very first eduCCate Global Gold Award School in the Middle East to lead all schools in the region.  She says\, “We must all take note of those schools that are genuine leaders in Sustainability and Carbon Literacy\, as they will be the change-makers in education throughout the world”.

DESCRIPTION:This is the first webinar series focused on Critical Thinking that is co-sponsored by Mediators Beyond Borders International (MBBI) and the Millennium Alliance of Humanity and the Biosphere (Stanford University). It is led by Ashok Panikkar of MetaCulture. Critical Thinking: This course demystifies the development of one’s thinking process. What prevents us from being open and curious learners? How can we think objectively and make useful decisions and choices? What are the obstacles to being a critical thinker? How can we cultivate our intellectual\, imaginative and relational capabilities?  \nIt is a 12-part Conflict\, Culture & Democracy Course. It will be held weekly on Fridays at 10 AM ET (-4 UTC). Each session will be 90 minutes long. The first session is scheduled for Friday\, May 14\, 2021\, at 10 AM EST and the twelfth session is scheduled for Friday\, July 30\, 2021\, at 10 AM EST.  \nIf the last few years have taught us anything\, it is that intelligence\, wisdom and humaneness cannot be taken for granted anymore. SUMMARY:Decolonizing Aid and Peacebuilding: Lessons for US Peacebuilding
DESCRIPTION:In November 2020\, Adeso\, the Alliance for Peacebuilding\, Peace Direct\, and Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security (WCAPS) hosted a three-day online consultation on racism\, discrimination\, and other forms of bias in international development\, humanitarian aid\, and peacebuilding. We combined the findings from that initial consultation\, as well as the findings from some complementary region-specific Zoom calls\, to produce a report titled ‘Time to Decolonise the Aid System.’  With an emphasis on the perspectives of local practitioners\, this report examines the manifestations of structural racism\, the implications of language\, and presents recommendations for donors\, INGOs\, and individual practitioners in the Global North on how to ensure their efforts are equitable\, sustainable\, and locally-led.
