SUMMARY:Body\, Mind and Soul: Integrating Religion and Secular Evidence-based Praxis to Heal Divide\, Overcome Hate and Address Domestic Radicalization
DESCRIPTION:Since the storming of the United States Capitol on January 6\, 2021\, a growing chorus of pundits\, politicians\, officials\, and experts have framed the rioters and the general threat posed by right-wing radicalization through a lens reminiscent of the tone and terms customary to the war on jihadist extremism. An example of this lies is the way a lot of post-Capitol Riot rhetoric suggested a clear pathway linking Christian Evangelicalism to right-wing radicalization. While there is merit inexploring how and in what ways modern American evangelicalism may intersect with an individual or group’s radicalization\, we must not replicate similar mistakes made in efforts to advance preventing and countering violent extremism initiatives when the focus was Jihadist extremism. The United States is a deeply religious country\, but apart from toxic polarization falling on political\, social and economic fault lines\, we are so too divided with regard to the way we perceive religion and spirituality. A trauma-informed approach can help integrate religious and secular approaches in a way that reduces radicalization and heals the divides that rest at the root of the conflict \nWith:\nJesse Morton\, former jihadist propagandist and now executive director of Parallel Networks\nKerry Noble\, former Christian White Identarian\, ordained minister and Parallel Networks interventionist\nDaryl Paul Lobban\, Director of Strategic Partnerships\, One America Movement \nMike Niconchuk\, works on neuroscience and peacebuilding at Beyond Conflict\nPanel moderated by Elizabeth Hume\, CEO of the Alliance for Peacebuilding  \nRegister to attend:\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJYsfu6rqzItGN2BfPGDMWX0vpu6HW1MsNYZ

SUMMARY:EduCCate - Schools Developing a Cross Curricular Climate Change Curriculum
DESCRIPTION:Engage in the discussion of the importance of climate change curriculum in schools and the work of EduCCate Global. This 90-minute conversation event will be on Wednesday\, May 12th\, 2021 at 12pm EDT (-4 UTC). Please use the Time Zone Converter to determine when this engaging conversation will be in your time zone. \nFor more information on the Climate Change Policy Project\, please see here. \nIf you are interested in engaging with this team\, join as a member here \nRegister here! \nSpeaker Bio\nMelanie Harwood:\n \nMelanie Harwood is an Education Specialist and a Philanthropist who is passionate about developing innovative education packages to close the attainment gap and aims to deliver not only the deeper cognitive thinkers but the sustainability leaders that our countries now need to achieve Carbon Neutral. \nThe 2019\, eduCCate Global Certified Climate Change Teacher Training is just one example of how and what she creates and curates in order to empower schools to develop a cross-curricular climate curriculum. Putting these intentions into action\, after the launch\, at COP 24 in Katowice Poland 2018\, of her concept to deliver the eduCCate Global Climate Change Teacher Course to all schoolteachers\, Melanie personally funded more than 329\,000 educators\, in 43 Countries. These educators were the very first eduCCate Global Certified Climate Change Teachers\, in the World!   \nShe personally sponsored several schools to participate in and complete the eduCCate Global Bronze and Silver Awards\, in both the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.  \nMelanie funded two Headteachers and team members to attend COP 25 Madrid in 2019.  \nMelanie Harwood delivered initiatives with the United Nations (UNITAR) and Hammersmith & Fulham Borough Council when the United Kingdom entered its first Covid 19 Lockdown and created both the Recovery Curriculum Virtual Summit as well as the Sustainable Schools Virtual Summit\, which were made available to all school leaders. \nMelanie recently sponsored a group of teachers to take part in the launch delivery of the eduCCate Global Certified Carbon Literacy Specialist Teacher Training and she hopes that this will pave the way for the very first eduCCate Global Gold Award School in the Middle East to lead all schools in the region.  She says\, “We must all take note of those schools that are genuine leaders in Sustainability and Carbon Literacy\, as they will be the change-makers in education throughout the world”.

SUMMARY:Webinar Series - Critical Thinking (May 14 - July 30)
DESCRIPTION:This is the first webinar series focused on Critical Thinking that is co-sponsored by Mediators Beyond Borders International (MBBI) and the Millennium Alliance of Humanity and the Biosphere (Stanford University). It is led by Ashok Panikkar of MetaCulture. Critical Thinking: This course demystifies the development of one’s thinking process. What prevents us from being open and curious learners? How can we think objectively and make useful decisions and choices? What are the obstacles to being a critical thinker? How can we cultivate our intellectual\, imaginative and relational capabilities?  \nIt is a 12-part Conflict\, Culture & Democracy Course. It will be held weekly on Fridays at 10 AM ET (-4 UTC). Each session will be 90 minutes long. The first session is scheduled for Friday\, May 14\, 2021\, at 10 AM EST and the twelfth session is scheduled for Friday\, July 30\, 2021\, at 10 AM EST.  \nIf the last few years have taught us anything\, it is that intelligence\, wisdom and humaneness cannot be taken for granted anymore. Established in 2005\, MetaCulture’s founder\, Ashok Panikkar\, has a background in teaching people how to think\, communicate and manage conflicts.      \nDEMOSAPIENS\, MetaCulture’s educational division\, is committed to developing thoughtful citizens who can sustain free and open societies. Our programs are designed to cultivate:  \n\n CRITICAL THINKING – Thinking objectively\, without personal or social biases.\n PERSONAL & CIVIC DISPOSITIONS – Engaging generously with other people in our community.\n REAL KNOWLEDGE– Understanding REALITY- beyond personal perceptions and ‘lived’ experience. \n\nA lifetime of working with groups and communities to strengthen their collaboration\, communication and conflict management processes has taught us that the health of a community is dependent upon the character\, competence and dispositions of the people involved. This has serious implications for democracy itself. Recent events have demonstrated that\, in addition to free elections\, rule of law and institutions\, a liberal democracy needs wise citizens\, not just subjects\, spectators\, bystanders or consumers.  \nEach session will seek to develop a discourse around democracy\, politics\, and culture that can be well-informed\, thoughtful\, and mature- rather than reactive\, angry\, wistful\, or riddled with assumptions. \nPlease note that the pricing for the Demo Sapiens Webinar Series is different than MBBI’s monthly webinars. Participants are paying for a 12-part series co-sponsored by MBBI\, Meta-Culture\, and the Millennium Alliance of Humanity and the Biosphere. \nRegister here for the Webinar Series starting on Friday\, May 14\, 2021\, at 10 AM ET

SUMMARY:Decolonizing Aid and Peacebuilding: Lessons for US Peacebuilding
DESCRIPTION:In November 2020\, Adeso\, the Alliance for Peacebuilding\, Peace Direct\, and Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security (WCAPS) hosted a three-day online consultation on racism\, discrimination\, and other forms of bias in international development\, humanitarian aid\, and peacebuilding. We combined the findings from that initial consultation\, as well as the findings from some complementary region-specific Zoom calls\, to produce a report titled ‘Time to Decolonise the Aid System.’  With an emphasis on the perspectives of local practitioners\, this report examines the manifestations of structural racism\, the implications of language\, and presents recommendations for donors\, INGOs\, and individual practitioners in the Global North on how to ensure their efforts are equitable\, sustainable\, and locally-led. As the United States confronts the conflicts experienced domestically\, Peace Direct is eager to see how these findings can inform domestic peacebuilding efforts. \nWith:\nBridget Moix\, U.S. Executive Director of Peace Direct\, and \nShannon Paige\, Scoville Peace Fellow \nRegister here:\nhttps://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwsdOigpjksHdEOGE8YI5Ft5coEFsC0mv3C

SUMMARY:DPACE Cafe June 16
DESCRIPTION:LET’S TALK ABOUT IT AT the DPACE CAFÉ! \nWhen:             June 16\,2021       7:00-8:30 ET\, 6:00-7:30 CT\, 5:00-6:30 MT and 4:00-5:30 PT \nWhere:           Zoom of course! \nThe Café will host the following discussion tables\, held in break out rooms. \n\nThe Bondage of Neutrality: How can neutrality support power imbalance and perpetuate oppression?  What burdens and benefits must the conflict practitioner consider when addressing power dynamics both explicit and implicit? Is it possible to be both neutral and omnipartial? Should we be neutral or omnipartial? Is it even possible to be an effective mediator adopting a neutral stance\, do we do more harm than good? Our silence speaks volumes. (Planned facilitator: Dianne Williams)\nWhat Learning About Others Taught Me about Myself: While cross-cultural learning\, diversity\, and inclusion have been talked about for years\, a particular momentum and mainstream focus more recently has offered significant opportunities for learning.  Many of us found ourselves facing difficult truths about personal paradigms\, bias\, and reconciling paradoxical versions of people we respect\, love\, and even ourselves.  This is additionally complicated by a changing social landscape in which effective allyship requires different things at different times.  However\, as is so often the case\, the most difficult areas of growth have also led to the most gratifying rewards.  Let’s come together to share what we’ve learned about others\, ourselves in the process\, and the gifts this has rendered.  (Planned facilitator: Shelley Allen)\nNetworking: Are you wondering who’s who\, looking for like-minded\, or perhaps different focused others to connect with?  We’ll have “open tables” available for getting to know one others and what they’re working on.\n\nAs the Cafe project grows\, we continue to listen to your feedback and make adjustments to the “menu” in order to best respond to your mind and heart’s nourishment needs. This time\, like the last\, the CAFE will offer a chance to change “tables” at the break or you can stay put and continue with the table you started with.  \nTo reserve your spot please:  \nSign-up to attend the session through this link:  Register Here! \n\nCo-create the Café: Do you have an idea for a Specific Topic menu item?  Please share your suggestion in the space provided during registration.  We want to know!  We need idea submissions by April 14th in order to forage for the proper ingredients you are requesting. \nAs we create together please send us an image or sketch that speaks to what draws you to DPACE.  Pictures speak louder than words. This is about drawing on your creative consciousness not about your prowess as an artist. Please share with heART!  Send submissions to DPACE@mediatorsbeyondborders.org by June 14th please.\nPut June 16th in your calendar today!  You’ll receive the Zoom link about an hour before the event.\n\nWe look forward to seeing you\, learning together and continuing to create a nourishing and supportive place for our community to imbibe wisdom\, humor\, new ideas and connections!
