SUMMARY:Responding to War\, Violence\, and Division with Trauma Awareness\, Mindfulness and Compassion (Dec 15)
DESCRIPTION:During the month of November\, MBBI held two listening sessions on the topic of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Several members joined the calls to discuss the heartbreaking events\, share their grief\, as well as ideas and hopes. One suggestion made was for a session addressing trauma and trauma-informed approaches.   \nJoin MBBI as we engage Henry Yampolsky in Responding to War\, Violence\, and Division with Trauma Awareness\, Mindfulness and Compassion \nThis 90-minute webinar will be held twice\, on December 15th\, 2023\, at 12ET and December 19\, 2023\, at 8pm ET. Register for whichever session(s) meet your schedule’s availability.  \nIn wishing to respond to the suggestion in a timely manner\, we also realize that this event is coming up very quickly. We hope that many of you can make it nonetheless. However\, if fewer than 10 individuals register by the day of each webinar\, we will postpone that specific session to January.   \nBoth of these conversations will be 1.5-hour sessions and recorded. Please use the Time Zone Converter to determine when this engaging event will be in your time zone.  \nDescription: This webinar will introduce the participants to key principles and practices of responding to war\, trauma\, and division and especially the current events in the Middle East\, with compassion\, awareness\, and curiosity\, instead of reacting to these phenomenons with avoidance\, aggression\, or fear. This webinar will also address specific ways in which we can support those most impacted and traumatized by the war. \nBrief Bio: MBBI Member Henry Yampolsky\, J.D. is a best-selling author of Dis-Solving Conflict from Within: an Inner Path for Conflict Transformation. He is a mediator\, educator\, lawyer\, and multi-time TEDx speaker. Henry serves as the Assistant Director for Education\, Outreach\, and Conflict Resolution at Virginia Tech’s Office for Equity and Accessibility and teaches conflict resolution\, mediation\, and peace building as a part of Virginia Tech’s Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention.  Henry has worked with hundreds of complex conflicts and has taught and lectured around the world including at: New York Peace Institute\, Columbia University School of Law\, Bharathiar University in Coimbatore\, India\, the International Gandhi Center in New Delhi; and at the Sattva Summit in Rishikesh\, India. Henry is a native of Kyiv\, Ukraine and holds J.D. from Temple University and a BS in International Relations from the University of Scranton.  \nRegister for either of the two sessions here: December 15th\, 2023\, at 12ET and/or December 19\, 2023\, at 8pm ET.
