After 22 years as a trial lawyer\, Mr. Noll became a peacemaker and mediator. Today\, he helps people resolve deep\, intractable conflicts and teaches others to do the same. Mr. Noll is an adjunct professor of law at the Pepperdine Caruso School of Law Straus Institute where he teaches Decision Making Under Uncertainty and Conflict.\n \nMr.Noll graduated from Dartmouth College\, earned his law degree at University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law\, and later in his career\, earned a Masters Degree in Peacemaking and Conflict Studies from Fresno Pacific University. He was a successful commercial and business trial lawyer before leaving the practice of law in 2000 to become a mediator and peacemaker.\n \nMr. Noll is the co-founder of the award-winning Prison of Peace Project\, in which he taught murderers in maximum security prisons to be peacemakers and mediators from 2010 until the onset of the COVID pandemic in 2020.\n \nIn his innovative peacemaking and mediation processes\, Mr. Noll has trained mediators and leaders in Europe\, the Middle East\, and Asia. He has personally mediated over 1\,500 disputes\, including sexual abuse in the Catholic Church and criminal victim-offender cases.\n \nMr. Noll’s honors include California Lawyer Magazine Attorney of the Year\, Purpose Prize Fellow\, and Best Lawyers of America Lawyer of the Year\, International Academy of Mediators Syd Leezak Award of Excellence\, and National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals Neutral of the Year.\n \nMr. Noll has written five books\, His fourth book\, De-Escalate: How to Calm an Angry Person in 90 Seconds or Less (Atria/Beyond Words)\, has sold over 40\,000 copies in five languages since its release in 2017. His fifth book\, Empathy Leadership: How A Powerful Skill Drives Business Success\, will be released by Beyond Words/Simon & Schuster September 8\, 2026. He has also created online video courses in legal negotiation and emotional de-escalation and conducted dozens of webinars\, workshops\, and keynotes to executives. His video offerings on YouTube have garnered over 488\,000 views.\n \nOn a personal note\, Mr. Noll is a jazz violinist\, aircraft and helicopter pilot\, ski instructor\, 2nd degree black belt\, tai chi master\, and whitewater rafter. He lives with his wife Aleya Dao in the foothills of the central Sierra Nevada south of Yosemite National Park.
