DESCRIPTION:Register here! \nThis Voices for Change session brings together Syrian financial expertise and global experience in Women\, Peace\, and Security to explore the connections between women’s participation\, peacebuilding\, and financial governance. The discussion will examine how sound financial institutions\, effective oversight\, transparency\, and inclusive decision-making can contribute to stability and recovery\, while highlighting the importance of ensuring women have a meaningful role in shaping Syria’s institutions. \nThe conversation will also consider lessons from international Women\, Peace\, and Security practice and how they can inform Syria’s transition\, with particular attention to institutional accountability\, women’s leadership\, and the development of systems that serve all communities. \nKeynote Speakers \nAbeer Asaad — Financial Expert \nAbeer Asaad is a distinguished financial expert with over 14 years of experience specializing in financial auditing\, regulatory compliance\, and banking supervision. She holds a Master’s degree in Finance and Banking from the Higher Institute of Business Administration (HIBA). \nDuring her tenure at the Central Bank of Syria\, she served as Head of the Off-Site Banking Supervision Division\, where she led a team of auditors overseeing the Syrian banking sector\, including public and private\, conventional and Islamic banks\, as well as microfinance institutions. Her expertise includes IFRS and IAS standards\, Basel frameworks\, risk assessment\, early warning indicators\, and internal control systems\, contributing to stronger financial governance and effective regulatory oversight. \nSahana Dharmapuri — Peacebuilding and Public Policy Expert \nSahana Dharmapuri is a peacebuilding and public policy expert with more than 20 years of experience advancing human rights and women’s rights globally. She serves as Vice President of Our Secure Future and Vice President of the PAX sapiens Foundation. \nRecognized as a leading global authority on Women\, Peace\, and Security (WPS)\, Sahana spearheaded the establishment of the first bipartisan WPS Congressional Caucus to advance the U.S. Women\, Peace\, and Security Act. She advises the U.S. government—including the Department of Defense\, State Department\, and Congress—as well as foreign militaries and NGOs on integrating women’s rights and preventing violence in conflict settings. A widely published scholar\, she has been recognized among the top 100 feminists worldwide and served as a Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School’s Carr Center for Human Rights.

SUMMARY:Restorative Practices to Restorative Justice: One Continuum\, Four Conversations
DESCRIPTION:Explore the principles and practical frameworks of restorative practice to heal communities\, address systemic harm\, and foster accountability. From building community to repairing harm\, a four-session interactive training with Dr. Dianne Williams \nMost trainings treat restorative practices and restorative justice as two separate subjects. This one doesn’t. Over four highly interactive sessions\, Dr. Dianne Williams presents them as two ends of a single relational continuum: the proactive work of building and holding community at one end\, the responsive work of repairing harm at the other.  She shows how the same relational mechanics run the entire span. \nThis is not a lecture series. You’ll sit in circles\, not just learn about them. You’ll keep a circle\, facilitate a restorative conversation\, and be coached live as you do it. Seasoned practitioners and newcomers train side by side\, with practice rounds deliberately pairing experience with fresh perspective so everyone leaves sharper. She has a strong background in the Caribbean and Latin America\, in particular around criminology\, conflict resolution\, mediation\, restorative practices\, restorative justice and cultural competency.  In her previous life she was a Criminologist and Consultant and has done coursework at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government\, the International Institute for Restorative Practices as well as the National Defense University William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies\, where she is a visiting professor.  She is a Clinically Certified Criminal Justice Specialist\, a Certified Sentence Mitigation Specialist\, a Certified Social and Behavioral Research Investigator and a Certified Mediator.  She is a Licensed Trainer of Trainers in Restorative Practices\, a Crime Prevention through Community Engagement and a Crime Prevention through Environmental Design specialist. Dr. Williams has numerous publications and co-authored the 2012 United Nation’s Human Development Report for Trinidad and Tobago. She holds a PhD\, an MBA and an MSc. Her areas of expertise include Restorative Practices\, Restorative Leadership\, Transformative Mediation and Citizen Legitimacy.
