Dulce Film Screening and Panel

October 1, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm EDT

Mediators Beyond Borders International’s United Nations Working Group and Women in Mediation Group, together with Conservation International, are proud to present the award-winning short film screening of “Dulce”, a beautiful glimpse into the life of a young girl- Dulce- and her mother in Colombia and how the impact of rising sea waters due to climate change has affected their daily lives.   Dulce has won numerous awards, including an official selection at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Sundance, and a VIMEO staff choice, as well as at other international film events.

Climate change impacts women and children disproportionately. Rising sea waters, increasingly frequent and severe natural disasters, fire, drought, soil erosion and other effects of climate change impact the peace and security of millions of women and children:  from income to food security, migration and displacement from homes, to the increase of conflict- climate change’s toll is as significant on humanity as it is on the planet.

Join us to welcome the co-director of “Dulce”, Guille Isa as he provides a behind-the-scenes narrative of the filming, and the powerful, yet subtle, message it conveys.

We are also joined by a panel of esteemed international subject matter experts who will discuss the impact of climate change on women, peace, and security.   Our mediators will discuss how building conflict resolution and peacebuilding skills locally can empower women to help mitigate the adverse effects of climate conflict.
