Tragic News: The Sudden Loss Of The Great Peacebuilder, Vicki Isler

June 22, 2018 By Megan Casey

It is with a deep, deep sadness that I share with you the tragic news of the sudden loss of the great Peacebuilder, Vicki Isler. Vicki passed away on Wednesday June 20th.

Vicki, a longtime member of MBBI and a champion of peace, dedicated years of her life to building a more peace “able” world. Even in her last hours, her optimism and hope for a better world shone through the pain as she continued to organize and communicate the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) at the UN from her hospital bed on Tuesday. She was on the Climate Change Policy Team, Co- lead our UN Working Group, and Women in Mediation Action group, and on the faculty of ITI.

This is sudden and shocking news that I just became aware of as I have been on a business trip all week. As Mitch, her husband, said- “her work with MBBI gave her the greatest joy” and she did this until her last day. We have lost a dear friend and a champion. I will miss her terribly.

Vicki hoped for us to continue to do the good work for which she dedicated years of heartfelt efforts. We will share updates on what we will do in her memory at a later date. I wanted you to know this for now. The family is sitting Shiva until Monday – for those able to visit. Megan can share the address if you call her at the office.

Service and funeral will take place at Goldstein Funeral Chapel. More details here.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations be made to Mediators Beyond Borders International in her memory.

Visit our United Nations Working Group page to learn about some of the work in which Vicki was heavily involved.
