MBBI to Holds Women in Mediation IPTI from 8-12 May 2017 in Bogota, Colombia

ROSSLYN, VA, May 5, 2017 – Mediators Beyond Borders International (MBBI) is pleased to announce that it will host the 4th regional cohort of its Women in Mediation International Peace Training Institute (IPTI) in Bogota, Colombia from 8-12 May 2017. MBBI thanks Rotary International and the American Arbitration Association- International Center for Dispute Resolution for their generous funding to support 31 participants from the Andean region in receiving peacebuilding and mediation training.

This IPTI will develop the capacities of women as mediators and peacebuilders in: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Venezuela. In the region, unresolved traumas of: rebel insurgencies, drug trade, military regimes, and domestic violence, present recurrent obstructions to the personal and economic wellbeing of individuals, organizations, and governments. In addition to the economic and social ties that exist between the six countries, this IPTI will strengthen existing networks of women peacebuilders in the region and introduce them, and their best practices, to other parts of the world.

The IPTI will deploy its signature approach to complete 10 days of conflict resolution skills and community leadership training. Participants will both offer their expertise and deepen it through exposure to a range of conflict resolution practices. Participants will plan conflict prevention, conflict transformation, and peacebuilding projects for their home locations, thereby amplifying the impact of their work. In January 2018, the IPTI will conclude with advanced training for IPTI participants.

These participants are joining a global network of women, consisting of a MENA and SE Asia cohort – as well as participants from our April IPTI in Belarus—who will build peace in their communities.

This Training is Funded by Rotary International (GG 1745757) with the support of Bogota Capital Club 4281
