Description: Join us to learn about the importance of developing healthy positive relationships through peacebuilding. Learn about the power of language, conflict styles, positive versus negative peace, coping strategies for managing conflict, and much more. This session will be conducted via Zoom Meeting, participants may use their microphones and video cameras.

Bio: José Barzola is dedicated to fostering harmony and cooperation by building collaborative communities through inclusive dialogue, conflict transformation, and sustainable partnerships. With a passion for nonviolence and social change, he empowers individuals and groups to create peaceful, resilient environments where everyone can thrive. His work centers on nurturing relationships that transcend cultural barriers and addressing issues of belonging and connection. A highly organized higher education administrator, José brings over 20 years of experience in student development, academic affairs, and cross-sector leadership. He has served as an affiliate faculty member at the Matsunaga Institute for Peace at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where he teaches courses on peace and conflict transformation. For over a decade, José has supported universities, nonprofit organizations, and international partners as a professional mediator and facilitator. Within the Hawaiʻi community, he currently serves as an Adjunct Fellow with the East-West Center’s Education Program, a Peace Educator with Ceeds of Peace, an Advisor with the Interfaith Alliance of Hawaiʻi, and a Board Member with both the Conflict Resolution Alliance and the Maui Historical Society.
