S. Martin
Director of Innovation
Scott R. “Martin” RLA is the Director of Innovation for Mediators Beyond Borders International (MBBI). In this role, he leads strategy and partnership development, cultivates relationships with international collaborators, and co-designs programs that integrate community mediation, trauma-informed practices, and social entrepreneurship to strengthen community resilience.
Martin’s background as a licensed landscape architect and small business owner which informs how he designs multi- track, systems-based approaches to conflict transformation. He is an international speaker and trainer, leading such projects as: trauma-informed peacebuilding in Rwanda and Ukraine, supporting youth leadership initiatives in the US, Bolivia and across ASEAN nations, and training over 100 community mediators across Africa, including teaching at the Rotary Peace Center at Makerere University in Uganda.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Rotary Peace Fellow Alumni Association (RPFAA), is a Global Ambassador and Positive Peace Activator with the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), and was recognized with a Paul Harris Fellowship for his contributions to building peace through dialogue and capacity-building.
Martin holds a Master of Arts in Negotiation, Conflict Resolution, and Peacebuilding from California State University Dominguez Hills and a Certificate in International Peace and Conflict Studies from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. He speaks conversational Spanish and Japanese, and spends his free time tending to his tiny avocado ranch in Southern California.
