CitizenDEMOS Hosts Citizen Cafes on the US East Coast

CitizenDEMOS is now firmly established as a volunteer initiative to strengthen the values of open, free, and self- governing societies— what democracies were meant to be. Citizen Mediators denotes the group of conflict resolution and peacebuilding professionals who are committed to stepping out of their professional spheres to participate in the larger civic space and in the process to strengthen a larger culture of democracy. In time, CitizenDEMOS aims to form other groups that are similarly committed like Citizen Teachers, Citizen Researchers, Citizen Elders, Citizen Homemakers, or Citizen Students.

A “Citizen Cafe” is a safe space in which people can get together and reflect upon what it means to be part of a democratic community.

Following a successful pilot training and Citizen Cafés in Boston, New York and Washington, D.C., CitizenDEMOS is finessing the content and design of the workshop. This in addition to pursuing different venues through which to hold a day-long workshop in Washington, D.C.
