When the subject of race comes up, uncomfortable feelings and judgements arise, and often useful communication is lacking. This webinar is an opportunity for those of us socialised as white to understand more about the role that society puts us in, its impact on us and how we can respond to issues of race and racism.

The webinar will explore:

  • The dynamics of white privilege and white fragility
  • Our global history and current societal structures and systems
  • Barriers to understanding and dialogue in this area

Who is it suitable for?

The webinar is intended for participants who identify as white and the focus of the workshop will be white people sharing and discussing their experiences.

Black and Ethnic Minority people/People of Colour are welcome to join on this basis.

As a white, middle class English girl growing up in London during the 1960s & 70s, I became conscious of the separation between myself and others created by race and class.  The separation was a loss, but one that was never spoken about. As an adult I have looked for safe places to explore and reconcile the role and the privileges that society had given me, to understand what is my place, and what I have to offer.  My relationships across class, race and nationality have been places of deep challenge; the places where I have been able to touch a sense of my own being and purpose.”
